NEW MUSIC: Frankmusik & Colette Carr - No I.D.

It's no secret I'm a big fan of Interscope/Cherrytree label mates Frankmusik and Colette Carr - he, an English electro-synth-pop multi-talent, she, a white girl singer-rapper from Malibu with wicked sense of style. When their respective lead singles ("Do It In The AM" and "(We Do It) Primo" respectively) premiered earlier this year, I was beyond excited for their upcoming projects. After that, my excitement was somewhat dampened by a number of mishaps and unhappy decisions - AM's radio adds date was pushed back, then cancelled; promo for AM failed to materialize; promo for Primo failed to materialize; Frank's album was pushed back; Frank's label opposed a short UK tour (he did it anyway); Frank's album sampler leaked and he reacted in his characteristic dramatic way threatening to throw himself in front of a car (or something like that, I can't quite remember). Other than the actual music videos, blog features and a few interviews here and there, neither Frank nor Colette got any worthwhile promotion; I believe the general high-point of the year so far has been respectively filling in for Ryan Tedder and Dev performing their respective collaborations with label mates and  personal friends Far East Movement on English television. There were other minor disappointments along the way but I can't quite remember when/what.

So, overall - things slowed down and got kind of messy; initial buzz and excitement among fans gave way to a morose attitude of wait-and-see how things will pan out. With fellow label mate Natalia Kills debuting on the US charts at #134 with sales just under 3,500, the pressure is on for both Frank and Colette to prove themselves as commercially viable acts in 2011. Cue their collaboration "No I.D.", which will serve as the next single for both and feature on both of their upcoming LP's. Originally a Colette-only rap affair produced by Space Cowboy (Lad Gaga, Nadia Oh), it was reworked by Frank into it's present, insanely catchy pure Pop duet form.

The music video that will accompany the song has already been shot (expect leather jackets, bikers, rock chick Colette, quiff-sporting Vincent Frank) and will premiere online sometime following the song's September 6th digital release.

Frank's sophomore album "Do It In The AM" is out September 26th and features additional collaborations with Far East Movement and Natalia Kills. Be sure to check out his recent interview with Flop of the Pops and his ALBUM MINIMIX here.

NEW MUSIC: Cal Ecker - I Will Love You

"I Will Love You" is the first single from Minnesota-native Cal Ecker's self-titled debut EP, which will be available this September 20th. The song is produced by Aaron Johnson, best known for his production work on both albums by The Fray - IWLY certainly would not be out of place on a Fray record, making it hard to know where to draw the line between Johnson's characteristic MOR piano-driven pop-rock stamp and the artist's own identity (whichever it may be). Like the members of The Fray, Ecker also had his musical start in the church, singing Christian music in a number of church bands. For those unfamiliar with the distinct brand of Christian music that is popular with the kind of Christian teens who play in church bands, it basically sounds just like this: unoffensive piano-driven pop-rock with a rocky (not too much - there's no wailing or excessive riffing here) male vocal. For those who are familiar with the likes of Hillsong (the top-selling trend-setters of 'mainstream' Christian music), it's very hard not to perceive the likes of both The Fray and Ecker as watered down, secularized versions of the exact same. Any punch that might be packed in the usual gospel message of salvation/hope/mercy is removed and replaced either with inane lyrics about love or relationships that are unoffensive enough to still be supported by a Christian audience but not overtly Christian as to repulse the secular audience the artist is really wanting to reel in. One is left with a neither-here-nor-there offering with weak lyrics sang over the same-old MOR backing track which seems to be behind a good 80% of Hillsong's output.

Ecker himself is passably good looking and delivers the goods vocally. Aesthetically the video does a good job at showcasing both Ecker and song. In all honesty, Ecker has two choices: either go back to singing straight-up, unashamedly Christian music, or go back to the drawing broad (as far away from Johnson as possible) and deliver something that isn't entirely forgettable/stale/contrived. Something worthy of his talent, which - if you can get past the outside casing of "poor man's Ryan Tedder" and "somewhat good but quite boring" - is actually quite substantial.

The music video was hard to make - just getting the piano down unto the beach was something of an ordeal. Check it out below:

MUST-SEE: Taylor Swift & Nicki Minaj - Super Bass

Yesterday bubblegum rapper Nicki Minaj crossed the street from the MTV VMA's at the Nokia Theater to Taylor Swift's concert at the Staples Center to perform her smash hit "Super Bass" as one of Taylor's surprise concer tguests (Justin Bieber, Jason Mraz, Ryan and Nash from Hot Chelle Rae are other surprise guests who have appeared during Taylor's Speak Now tour).

The performance was of particular significance as Taylor Swift played a huge part in popularizing the song, after a video of her rapping Nicki's verse went viral prior to the song's release as a single.

Following the show, both stars took to Twitter "Taylor started this 'Super Bass' frenzy and I want to thank her from the bottom of my heart. I love you, Taylor," was Nicki's response, whilst Taylor tweeted  "The combination of the INSANE crowed tonight and @NICKIMINAJ joining me onstage for 'Superbass' = #IwishIcouldhavethismoment4life." in reference to Nicki's breakthrough hit "Moment 4 Life".

Check the impromptu performance below:

MUSIC VIDEO: Bombay Bicycle Club - Shuffle

"Shuffle" is Bombay Bicycle Club's lead single from new album "A Different Kind Of Fix", released two days ago and available HERE. The indie-folk rockers album is already #5 in the mid-weeks and follows up 2010's Silver-certified "Flaws", which made the album charts at #8.

terius nash 1977 Free Download: The Dream 1977

R&B crooner, superstar producer and songwriter Terius Youngdell Nash, best known by his artist moniker The-Dream, is famous for the big hits he has crafted for other artists -  "Umbrella" (Rihanna), "Baby" (Justin Bieber), "Obsessed" , "Touch My Body" (Mariah Carey), "Single Ladies", "Run The World (Girls)" (Beyoncé) "Leavin'" (Jesse McCartney) are just some of the radio staples of the past few years for which he is responsible. His highly publicized failed marriages to R&B songstresses Nivea (mother of Dream's three children and who also had a child with rapper Lil Wayne) and Christina Milian (of "AM To PM" fame and mother of another of Dream's children) solidified his position on the R&B A-list.

Such success and exposure has generally eclipsed his own solo career, which has generally come off as something of a side project. A critically acclaimed and reasonably successful one (combined sales of his first three albums exceed the million mark, notable for a straight-up R&B artist who has only had two Top 20 hits) but a side project nonetheless. In his recent interview with VIBE , in which he opened up about Milian, suicidal thoughts, Kanyé & Jay-Z, Ciara, Twitter, and much more, he revealed how his last LP was rushed out to meet label demands, negatively affecting both the quality and marketing of the project. Back then it was his intention to retire, but as he shared with VIBE, artists saying they're retiring are just lying.

And so, with all that considered, it's likely that Dream feels more pressure than ever for his next solo project, which is due out later this year. Perhaps as a means of alleviating that pressure somewhat; perhaps as a way of testing the waters; perhaps in order to drum up interest in the end of his pseudo-retirement - for whatever reason, Dream has decided to first put out a mixtape/free album/internet give-away, titled "1977".

Eleven brand new Dream tracks featuring notable guest appearances from Pharell Williams of N.E.R.D. and Big Sean. For free. Everyone likes free stuff, right?

MUSIC VIDEO: Lil Mama - Scrawberry (Nicki Minaj Diss)

Under the guise of a tribute to one of her role models, MC Lyte, "Lip Gloss" rapper Lil Mama - THE Lil Mama of the infamous 2009 internet meme - issues a new music video for "Scrawberry", a very blatant reference to the phrase made famous by her arch-nemesis Nicki Minaj (who she believes is heavily influenced by her).

As much as I am rooting for Lil Mama to make a proper comeback musically, and whilst there is no doubting her talent as both a rapper and dancer, this really isn't very good -  both the song itself and the accompanying  video are decidedly sub-par.

"Enjoy":

NEW MUSIC: Tinie Tempah feat. Pusha T, Jim Jones & Wiz Khalifa - Till' I'm Gone

Twenty-two year old British rapper and MC Patrick Junior C. Okogwu is best known as Tinie Tempah and shot to fame internationally with the release of his breakthrough smash hit "Pass Out" early last year. Now, for the remix of his second US single "Till' I'm Gone", which features Wiz Khalifa on the hook and new rapping from Tinie himself, he has enlisted the help of Pusha T and Jim Jones.

Tinie will be touring alongside Lupe Fiasco all over North America, starting this September.

Check out the remix below:

MUST-SEE: Sugababes Interview with GaydarRadio

Sugababes 4.0 have been keeping busy on their promotional rounds for new single "Freedom", which has seen them not only performing the anthemic banger all over England (most recently at Manchester Pride, T4 On The Beach, etc) and  stop by various radio stations who have supported the 'Babes music, but also sign a very lucrative deal with Nokia, who is now using the song in their new television commercial. Now, they stop by Gaydar Radio for a very candid, must-see interview, which sees Jade open up about how she joined the group, and Heidi and Amelle share their feelings on Keisha's departure and the public's reaction to the group's  line-up changes.

Enjoy:

NEW MUSIC: Estelle feat. Swizz Beatz, Jadakiss & Busta Rhymes - Break My Heart

It's been a while since Grammy Award-winner rapper and singer Estelle Swaray broke through into the mainstream conscious with her international smash hit "American Boy". Recently things have been marred by a few false starts as she gears up to release her third studio album, "All Of Me", which is due out this fall.

Now, Estelle's latest single "Break My Heart" gets the remix treatment courtesy of Swizz Beatz (Mr Alicia Keys), Jadakiss and Busta Rhymes, complete with a sample of Zhane's 1994 hit "Sending My Love". Needless to say the remix does not disappoint.

Confirmed features on Estelle's upcoming EP include Janelle Monaé, Akon, Common and Rick Ross. Enjoy:

NEW MUSIC: JoJo - Disaster

Don't call it a come back (even though it is). Promising teen songstress JoJo - who sold millions worldwide on the back of her hits "Leave (Right Now)" and "Too Little Too Late" - is FINALLY back with an official single, following a good couple of  years of endless label trouble and song leakage. Lifted from her upcoming third album, the cut is called "Disaster" and is released digitally September 6th.

Not as instant as her previous fare, it's pretty good nonetheless. Check it out below:

NEW MUSIC: Josh Kumra - Don't Go (Acoustic)

"Don't Go" is the chart-topping collaboration between rapper Wretch 32 and singer Josh Kumra. Here, the amiable Mr Kumra performs his own solo, acoustic version of the track.

James Morrison could never.

MUSIC VIDEO: Toddla T feat. Shola Ama & J2K - Take It Back

Throwback cut "Take It Back" is the first single from Toddla T's new album "Watch Me Dance", featuring hugely underrated UK r&b vocalist Shola Ama and J2K. Remixes will ensure shortly, courtesy of Dillon Francis, The 2 Bears, D1, Des Demure and DJ Q.

MUSIC VIDEO: Nicki Minaj feat. Rihanna - Fly

Shot back in January, Trinidadian-American rapper and singer Nicki Minaj has finally released her new music video for new single "Fly", featuring good friend Rihanna. The song is lifted from her debut studio album "Pink Friday" which made history by generating seven individual Hot 100 hits for the rapper - more than any female rapper before her.

"Fly" is the eighth single to be released from the LP, which has sold just short of 2 million copies worldwide, and premiered last night during MTV's 2011 VMAs Pre-show. Check it out:

NEW MUSIC: Justin Bieber & Drake - Trust Issues (Remix)

Adding to his ever-growing list of urban collaborations, reigning teen idol Justin Bieber jumps on the remix to Drizzy Drake's laid back R&B cut "Trust Issues", produced by 40 and Adrian X.

Drake is currently readying his highly anticipated sophomore LP "Thank Me Later" whilst Bieber is readying a Christmas album (which will also be his second studio album release).

Obviously one for the mary-jane crowd. Enjoy:

NEW MUSIC: DATABOY - Just Once

It's always refreshing to come across hot new music. "Just Once" is the new single from Austin, Texas duo  DATABOY - that is, Cameron Maxell and Adam Bailey, both 22 years old. Now residing in New York, the guys have been making a name for themselves, both with their own music and collaborating/writing for various others.

As they very accurately say on their website, "Born in the 80′s, kids of the 90′s, inspired by the sounds of the new millennium; their uniquely crafted synth-driven soundscapes, hard hitting beats, smooth vocals, and undeniable hooks define a new brand of fresh electronic pop."

So yeah. Here's "Just Once", which is available for free download.

NEW MUSIC: Marcus - Die Happy

Marcus is only sixteen, he sings, he writes, he's talented. If Myspace was still relevant he'd be famous on it.

Produced by Planet Purple, this is "Die Happy", enjoy:

REMIX: Ellie Goulding - Starry Eyed (GunSlungLow Struck By Lightning Mix)

California-based producer/remixer GunSlungLow breathes a whole new life into the charming miss Ellie Goulding's smash hit "Starry-Eyed" with his stomping club edit of the track.

NEW MUSIC: Nicola Roberts - Lucky Day (White Lies Remix)

Sweet new remix of Nicola Roberts' new single "Lucky Day", courtesy of White Lies.

The Lucky Day EP can be pre-ordered here and will be out officially in the UK this September 18th.

MUSIC VIDEO: Leona Lewis / Avicii - Collide

The music video for Leona Lewis and Swedish DJ Avicii's pseudo-collaboration "Collide", which serves as the first single release from her third studio album, "Glass Heart", has just debuted. The song's official digital release will be on September 4th in the UK and September 6th in the US, with a physical CD following on September 9th in Germany.

Tim Berg, aka Avicii
"Glass Heart" will be out on November 28th. For the album Leona worked with numerous writers and producers including Ammo, Jonas Quant, Chuck Harmony, Claude Kelly, Ryan Teddy, Fraser T. Smith, Al Shux, Steve Robson, Dallas Austin, Rico Love and Ne-Yo. Leona also recorded two songs written by singer-songwriter Emeli Sandé - "Trouble" (co-written by Naughty Boy) and "Mountains" (co-written by Naughty Boy and former Blazin' Squad members Flava and Mus).

The video itself is no thriller but does the very best possible in attempting to showcase the song as 'epic'. It's no When Love Takes Over but aesthetically it's all very pleasant. Enjoy:

MUSIC VIDEO: Fabian Buch - Turn Off The Lights

FINALLY - a decent solo Pop guy.

Fabian Buch is a twenty-one year old German singer who won some kind of talent show and is now releasing music. He's yet to score a big breakthrough hit but he's definitely headed in the right direction with both sound and image.

Fabian's new single is called "Turn Off The Lights" and it's out in his home country August 28th. The catchy track comes accompanied by a very polished music video which seems indicative of a very decent budget behind him; hopefully they'll put it to good use and give him some much needed promo. For some reason both song and video remind me of R&B star Brandy - especially "Right Here (Departed)".

Enjoy Germany's best below:

MUSIC VIDEO: Rihanna - Cheers (Drink To That)

Everyone's favorite Bajan diva Robyn Rihanna Fenty -  better known as just Rihanna - debuts the music video for the Avril Lavigne-sampling "Cheers (Drink To That)", which serves as the fifth single to be lifted from her hugely successful "LOUD" LP. The visual features newly shoot scenes and tour footage from the LOUD Tour.

NEW MUSIC: Marina And The Diamonds - Radioactive (Starsmith Rework)

For whatever reason, Miss Marina Diamandis' (best known as Marina And The Diamonds) "people" decided to forego Starsmith's reworking of the song and left it off the official digital EP which will be released onto iTunes et al to accompany the song. Dumb, dumb, dumb move. Dumb choices are dumb.

Be that as it may, this remix is pretty darn awesome and deserves universal praise and acclaim. Worship below:

And in case you missed it, I got to ask Starsmith a few questions not long ago, be sure to read it all here.

MUSIC VIDEO: Beyoncé - 1+1

There's a reason why she's the one and only.

STUNNING.

ALBUM COVER & TRACK-LISTING: Nicola Roberts - Cinderella's Eyes

Viva la ginge!

In the past couple months Nicola Roberts has taken the world of Pop by the horns and graduated from one-fifth of "on hiatus" top-selling girl group Girls Aloud to THE most exciting debut artist of the year. Her album is titled "Cinderella's Eyes" and it's lush, acid trip of a cover is featured right above.

The album comes out in the UK on September 26th and features production courtesy of Dmitri Tikovoi, Diplo, Metronomy, The Invisible Men, and Dragonette - to the exclusion of work done with Richard X, James Ford, Mark Tieku and BiffCo. If you're unfamiliar with how utterly awesome and talented these people are and with their respective discographies, open a new tab and google them.

The long awaited tracklist has finally been revealed and is comprised, in it's Standard form, of 12 tracks:

01. Beat Of My Drum
02. Lucky Day
03. Yo-Yo
04. Cinderella's Eyes
05. Porcelain Heart
06. I
07. Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime
08. Say It Out Loud
09. Gladiator
10. Fish Out Of Water
11. Take A Bite
12. sticks + stones

Hopefully all of the unused tracks will be utilized in other ways -  the latest B-side is "Fix Me", a Tikivoi production that did not make the final cut for the album.

The second single from the project is "Lucky Day", which is ready to enthrall you right below:

EDIT: Here's some more album and song info: it's described as "a riot of colossal pop melodies, underground sounds, singing, rapping and astonishing honesty. (..) There’s ‘Yo-Yo’, which marries classic pop lyrics (“don’t want to be the last to know, will it be a yes or a no?”) to a post-Dalston Ronettes vibe and a pulsing, demented electro breakdown. The brilliant ‘Porcelain Heart’ is quirky, bonkers pop, while ‘Sticks & Stones’ is a series of frank snapshots behind the scenes of life in a pop band (Spoiler alert: it’s not always laugh-a-minute). Most tellingly, the breezily confrontational‘Take A Bite’ - “you push me to fight, everybody’s got a limit, so put ’em up” - feels like an object lesson in what it might sound like if, having been yelled at, heckled, told she’s ugly and crap for almost a decade, a 25-year-old was finally allowed to scream back."

I can't wait.

MUSIC VIDEO: FutureProof feat. Kayne - Maniac

London-based electro-pop  producer/artist collective FutureProof is made up of Charlie, Jonni and Kiran, all of whom are 21 and younger. Their second single is titled "Maniac" and features sightly over-groomed up and comer Kayne Raime who has already supported the likes of N-Dubz, Olly Murs and others.

Kayne's eyebrows aside, it's a definite tchoon and is out officially September 25th.

MUSIC VIDEO: Boss In Drama - I Don't Want Money Tonight

Pericles Martins has gone by the pseudonym Boss In Drama since 2006, when he revealed his new solo project at the Motomix festival, at a time when he was still involved in the (now extinct) electro-rock project Gomma Fou. Since then he's established himself as one of the biggest names in Brazilian electronica (he even won a MTV Video Music Brasil award in the category) and worked on crafting his own sound, drawing on references from classic disco, french house, italo and R&B - he cites the likes of Janet and Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Shalamar and Chic as influences. Furthermore, he's shared the stage with the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Annie, KT Tunstall, Diplo and LCD Soundsystem and garnered praise from Timerbalek himself on his own official blog.

The video itself is dark and glittery, reminiscent of Marina And The Diamonds (I Am Not A Robot) and Friendly Fires (Skeleton Boy). The song itself is most enjoyable and suits Pericles vocals well - save for one thing: similar to other Brazilian artists singing in English (we're looking at you Wanessa) his pronunciation is incredibly grating and off-putting. By the time you get to the chorus itself, you can get over it, but there are moments in the first verse where it's decidedly painful.

I'd also like to feed him, the poor boy looks awfully undernourished.

Enjoy below:

MUSIC VIDEO: Rye Rye feat. Robyn - Never Will Be Mine (Burns Remix)

Attempts to make Baltimore rapper Rye Rye "happen" continue with the release of yet another remix video for current single "Never Will Be Mine". The remix du jour is the 'Burns Remix' and the video features newly shoot scenes and out-takes, with a few spliced-in images of Robyn from the original video.

Unfortunately, it seems neither the remix videos nor performing on Jay Leno will be enough to make this - or Rye Rye herself - commercially viable. What Rye Rye desperately needs is radio play, but the poor girl's stuck between a rock and a hard place: a bit too "out-there" for mainstream radio, yet too Poppy for Urban radio to give her any real love.

Check out the new mix and video below:

MUSIC VIDEO: Lil Wayne - How To Love

The visual for Lil Wayne's latest smash, the auto-tune acoustic Top 5 Billboard hit "How To Love" has just debuted. Hopefully this awesome song - which is markedly different to Wayne's past material - will get the push it deserves, especially outside the US (so far it has failed to chart in most other markets).

FOTP Exclusive Interview with The Dirty Tees

PhotoAlt

Canadian duo Ryan Freeman and Grant Peters got together in 2010 to form The Dirty Tees. The release of their debut music video "Where We Are" and a slew of remixes for artists such as La Roux, Two Door Cinema Club and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs spread word of the band throughout the internet, particularly on blogs and music sites such as Soundcloud and HypeMachine. Their official [and amazing!] remix of Natasha Bedingfield's single "Touch" established a working relationship between themselves and the multi-platinum "Unwritten" songstress, which has already spawned a proper collaboration in the form of "Miracle".

The duo are now managed by Bedingfield's production company and will be moving this September to Los Angeles, California to finish off their debut album. I had the opportunity to ask them a few questions and learn more about these awesome guys, check their answers below:

DTLabel1

Hello The Dirty Tees! How are you both right now?
.
We’re both great! Life is good, haha – thanks for having us.

I saw on your twitter (@TheDirtyTees) you’ve just flown out to Toronto. What you doing there?
.
Both of our families live just outside of Toronto and we grew up there so it’s home for us and it’s treated us well!

You’re returning to Los Angeles in September to finish up your debut album. Why chose L.A. to be your base and not elsewhere?

For our situation, L.A is the most logical choice because we’ve begun to establish connections there via Natasha Bedingfield and her husband Matt Robinson who is currently our manager. Not to mention flights are so cheap between there and Toronto.

How far are you into the record – almost done, half-way, just starting?

We’re probably at a solid medium right now. Most of the songs have been produced but only 5 or 6 have been written to or have vocal tracks laid down. We’re looking at a 10 – 12 song album with a hopeful release date of next spring or summer.

Have you decided on an album name, or got down to a shortlist of names for it?

We’ve talked about it but haven’t really nailed anything to the wall. However the title “Odyssey,” has been discussed.

When you’re finished with your debut album and you put it out there for people to listen to, what do you want people to take away from it? What’s the underlying message or concept?

A major element that has been a goal for us since day one is to provide our audience with a certain level of interpretation when it comes to our lyrics. This recent wave of dance that has been introduced in the contemporary pop production has brought on some very shallow lyrical ideas for some reason. We have always tried to avoid lyrics with poor connotations such as, drugs, drinking, sex, because dance music is so powerful, yet many artists lose sight of that uplifting power and choose to embrace those poor connotations. So that being said, we want to take people on an emotional journey where dance music is the vehicle instead of your standard rock, pop, or alternative album where similar lyrical structures would be employed.

Would you prefer to release it independently, keep the reins of creative control in your own hand or are your sights set on a major label record deal?

We have decided be independent until we need to distribute the album. The large record labels appear to be going through some rocky times and we’ve heard some horror stories of artists who have signed with the majors, so our plan is to own the rights to our music rather than seek the help of a corporation. The idea is to sell the record to a major Indie label when the time is right.

Going right back to the beginning – which isn’t all that long ago – how did you guys first meet and form The Dirty Tees and then go on to having your very own music video (for the awesome awesome awesome “Where We Are”) out only a few months later?

Haha we’re glad you like it! Well, we met in 2006 during our sophomore year of high school and coincidentally, it turned out that we both produced music as a hobby so we began jamming and working on a few projects together for fun. In the spring of 2009 we went to Europe together and while we were in Santorini, Greece, on a hike between Oia and Fira over looking the view of the Mediterranean, we were inspired to begin something big together. Six months later we began our freshman year at The University of Western Ontario and during the course of our first semester we began working on little projects that eventually formed our first release in February of 2010. By the time our second semester rolled around we were both anxious to finish up the year and direct our full focus on The Dirty Tees for that summer. Once we finished “Where We Are,” came a month or so afterwards. We produced the video ourselves along with the help of our good friend and incredible filmmaker Michael Chiang of whom we did our video “The Speed Of Lights,” with.

What were you doing prior to TDT? Could you tell me a bit about each of you individually – how old are you, where’d you grow up, are you single/married, were you ever in jail for dealing crack, that kind of thing?

Grant: Haha not much was going on with me before! I was working to complete a Film Studies degree at The University of Western Ontario before I left school to pursue The Dirty Tees as a full time venture. Right now I’m 19 and I grew up in Oakville, Ontario just down the street from Ryan. I’ve been in a very successful relationship for the last two and a half years and we’re planning to get married in a couple of years once she finishes her degree.

Ryan: I am 6’ 2’’ – 175 lbs – 20 Years of age - Tall, dark & handsome. Haha – No seriously… Before The Dirty Tees, I was involved in multiple music projects. From playing percussion in a Pit Band, too performing at the head of church. Music is my passion, and it always has been. I feel so blessed to be able to live my dream and breath music day after day. In the love department - I am currently in a blossoming relationship with a very special girl... I have always lived my life to the best that I can to be able to make the people I love proud and I am constantly learning and open to new experiences. I am also very grateful for supportive friends, family and fans… We wouldn’t be where we are today without their support and love! So thank you!

Everything about The Dirty Tees seems done to perfection. From the music itself, to the short videos, to the music video, to the way everything’s taking off…there’s nothing amateur or so-so. Would you say you’re perfectionists? Do you have a huge team working with you?

Honestly we do it all ourselves. Occasionally we’ll enlist the help of talented friend like Michael Chiang for a video or photographs, however, everything we do is homegrown. We definitely are perfectionists and we’ll spend months at a time on a song revisiting it again and again until it is perfect to our ears. We are firm believers that Rome wasn’t built in a day.

You were just over in the UK…What were you doing over there? Do you guys perceive any major differences between the Canadian music scene and industry and their equivalents in the USA and UK?

We were networking in the UK for the good part of the trip and we also got “Miracle,” mastered in EMI’s studios which was pretty cool! It was very rewarding because we began that song in London, Ontario during the fall of 2010 and then finished it up in London, England. It felt very good to get that song tied up. From what we noticed, the UK’s music scene is a lot more open to blending genres and pushing the envelope with unfamiliar sounds. However fads are formed just as quickly as they die, which makes it easy to break in to the market, but fall through the cracks in on fell swoop. What’s great about the North American scene is that different styles of music that catch on move like molasses, but when they catch on they really catch on and everyone wants more. Look at how popular Dubstep in North America has become recently.

I was on edge anticipating your new song called “Miracle” featuring the legendary/amazing Natasha Bedingfield. Why did you chose to go back to that particular song (the huge "Toca's Miracle"), which has already been remixed and released in different versions so many times, instead of doing something else?

When we visited L.A for the first time in January, we bounced a few instrumental productions off of Natasha and she really vibed with that particular one. Every time she heard it she kept humming the chorus of “Toca’s Miracle,” so we decided to sample the hook and write our own verses and make it an all-original production. We didn’t really think about the previous versions of the song and how many times it had been recycled in the past; we just kind of went with what sounded right. We figured that sampling a hook of a proven hit never hurts especially when promoting our production skills.

Are there plans for a music video for “Miracle” any time soon?

Nothing in the near future, but who knows!

How did you go from putting your own remixes out on the internet to doing an official remix for THE Natasha Bedingfield? And then from doing a remix for her to working with both her and her sister (Nikola Rachelle, aka TheGoldenPhoenix)? Tell me as much as you can about it all.

Well, Ryan’s family goes way back with Natasha’s husband’s family and we sent him “Where We Are,” last summer and they absolutely loved our work so they thought they’d give us a chance doing something for her. We remixed “Touch,” and they loved that so much that they invited us to come down to L.A for a week of work in January to see what we came up with. While we were down there, we wrote six songs in seven days and had the honor of collaborating on our first co-written song with Grammy Nominee Jonas Myrin. After that trip we were left to work on “Miracle,” and we got everything in order to make the move to L.A for good where Natasha and her husband Matt are currently helping us break in to the scene and provide us with established writers to assist that process. We met Nikola in May and showed her some of our music. She loved our work and we decided to write to one of our productions together.

In general, when listening to a song what makes you want to take it and remix it? What does it HAVE to have?

We’re not doing any remixes at the moment, nor have we since “Touch,” however when selecting a song for a remix it has to be by an artist that we both enjoy listening to and someone whose voice we won’t hate hearing hundreds of time over and over again!

The unholy marriage of rock and electro/house, when done well, is pretty darn awesome. What inspired you guys to pursue that path and where do you intend to go from there?

We grew up listening to bands like U2, Nirvana, Pilot Speed, and Hillsong United, so alternative and rock music has always been a large aspect of our musical palette. As we mentioned before, we noticed dance music making its way in to the mainstream recently so we decided to explore combining it with the styles we’ve grown up with. Essentially, our goal for furthering our hybrid is to show that a guitar can act as a prominent element in dance music without sounding awkward or out of place.

What does TDT bring to the table that is new and different to what is already out there? Are you innovators or perfecters?

Often we are told that our music is a combination of everything that people look for in a dance song but with our own flavor added to the mix. We like to perfect and innovate, but most importantly we like to build on what people love in music such as structure, melody, and beat. We implement the structure of a pop or rock song, yet we have the beat and sounds of a dance song, but we bring that unique element of the guitar driving our music (as you will hear in our future work)

What are three things everyone needs to know about TDT?

Haha, umm… well that’s a tough question. Maybe just that we take our craft very seriously and that we avoid the stereotypical “live fast, die young,” lifestyle that many people in our industry exploit.

A song you wish you’d written?

Anything by Pilot Speed.

Any words of wisdom to close off the interview with?

Every day counts; don’t let them pass you by!

Grant and Ryan, thank you so much! I look forward to your success and will be sure to continue reporting on your progress.

VIDEO STILLS: Leona Lewis .vs. Avicii - Collide

Leona Lewis and her record label, Syco, have finally resolved their dispute with Tim Berg "Avicii" and his record label Ministry of Sound, with the end result that Avicii will henceforth be credited alongside Leona on her new single "Collide" (a rip-off of Avicii track "Fade Into Darkness").

The official single is out September 4th in the UK.

Whilst the song itself ain't all that (read: entirely forgettable) the video is looking perfectly on-point. Leona looks great and the locations are ideal.  Check out stills from the shoot below:
